Here is an announcement that may please quite a few readers: Amazon is getting ready to launch a new Kindle e-reader for late 2026 and it will be an affordable model with a 6-inch black and white screen.
This is all a very well-documented rumor, since the news comes to us after a leak that shows the new e-reader and the colors that will be available.
So this is an entry-level Kindle with a black and white e-ink screen, with a redesigned case available in different colors: black, blue, green and purple.
There is one detail that matters: the power button, which was located on the bottom edge of the e-reader, is now on the right edge. This is a real plus in terms of ergonomics, since it avoids pressing the button by accident when using a stand. But it is far from a revolution, it must be said.
As for the screen, while it does seem to be 6 inches, we don’t know if it will be high definition or if Amazon will choose a simpler screen to lower the price of its basic e-reader. Indeed, at the time I am writing these lines, the cheapest Kindle e-reader is available for $169.99.

A cheaper Kindle could well undercut Kobo, which is starting to seriously compete with Amazon (sales of Kobo e-readers have doubled in a short time).
We don’t know anything more, and we will also have to check that good-quality lighting is still included (if possible with a blue light filter) and that the amount of storage remains decent, even if for a 6-inch e-reader, 8 GB of memory is enough to store thousands of ebooks.
No release date is known. However, given the quality of the visuals that can be found on the Web, it seems that a release in the coming weeks is possible.
