With the rise of mini e-readers with electronic ink screens between 3 and 5 inches diagonally, it makes sense to see manufacturers jump in and follow this trend. After the Pocketbook Q, it is now Boox’s turn, and its Boox Picco, to get people talking.
Until now, we had little information about the Boox Picco. But a video maker managed to get hold of a unit and test it for a few minutes.

Here is the information I was able to gather from it…
First of all, this machine is small and does not use the Android system. It is therefore a proprietary system, and the software focuses on reading ebooks.
It has a black and white electronic ink screen with a front light. The interface is also touch-enabled, unlike the XTEINK X4 reviewed here. I noticed that the front light has a color temperature adjustment system (to reduce the effects of blue light), which is fairly impressive for a device as small as this Boox Picco.
There are fairly complete options when it comes to text customization: character size, line spacing, font and paragraph spacing. Even if it is not as complete as on larger e-readers, it should be more than enough.
When it comes to ebook file transfers, different options are available: by cable from a computer, or wirelessly from a smartphone (for example).
I noticed the presence of an SD-type expansion card, which should significantly increase the storage space available on the Boox Picco.
No release date and no price have been announced for the moment…
